How an online I Ching coin toss works
Three coins make one line. Repeat six times to build your hexagram from the bottom line up. Each coin is worth 2 or 3: a total of 6 is changing yin, 7 is stable yang, 8 is stable yin and 9 is changing yang.
With fair independent coins, totals 6 and 9 each have a 1-in-8 chance; 7 and 8 each have a 3-in-8 chance. Changing lines reverse to form a relating hexagram. If every line is stable, there is no separate relating hexagram.
This online I Ching oracle fixes the coin results before the animation reveals them. Skipping the animation or refreshing this tab keeps the same result. A new cast needs your explicit action.

Can I cast an I Ching hexagram for free?
Yes. Casting and viewing your primary hexagram, changing-line positions and relating hexagram need no account. Choose Start interpretation when you are ready to explore your question.
Do I need to type a question before tossing the coins?
No. You can keep a question in mind. If you later choose interpretation, add your question privately and choose Start interpretation while keeping this same cast.
What happens when I start interpretation?
If you do not already have an account session, a secure account step opens. After you complete it, interpretation begins automatically with your saved question and this exact cast. The free casting step does not generate an AI interpretation.
What if I already have a reading?
Do not generate another result just to identify an existing one. Enter your six recorded line values instead; keep missing information unknown.
Can I keep the result after refreshing?
The same tab can restore its saved cast for up to 24 hours using browser storage and its session cookie. Do not clear these or switch accounts while continuing. This tool does not provide public sharing or cross-device recovery.
